To Maked Speeds

I'm currently looking into Linux and Ubuntu has caught my eye. However, I've noticed that Xubuntu appears to be the same thing, but lighter on resources. If Xubuntu is so much faster, why is Ubuntu more popular? It doesn't sound like their are more features. Am I missing something?

Try Kubuntu, KDE is worth it. Personal opinion here, though if I start a desktop war I'll be happy, KDE > Xfce > GNOME.

GNOME is designed to be full featured AND "easy for everyone to use".
For example, the common dialogs are full featured and easy for everyone to use.
And I agree with >>6 that trying hard not to be <anything> is retarded.
