I want to install Ubuntu. What type of PC w/out a preinstalled OS would you recommend? I'm a n00b, so I can't make my own.

I understand software much better than hardware. I know the things needed, and I could probably get help, but I'm lazy and still in school. Thanks for the link, but I'd still like to know some non-os computers.

building your own computer from scratch is not hard so long as you know what hardware to put into it.  everything that's not obvious comes with instruction manuals.  if you don't know what hardware you're putting into it, getting a working linux installation will be /PAIN/, even with something like ubuntu.

    Then probably buy most of it from Newegg.com

    The assembly is really simple and something most geeks can do in under an hour.
   You invest some time in research but end up with better quality hardware free of conflicts with eachother. Don't skinp on amount or quality of your RAM. Bad ram is a bitch to diagnose.
