Need some port forwarding experts

Name: SFU2236 2007-01-04 0:36

I'm making my own Ventrilo server, so I download the server and start it. I put in the address it says, the port, and I'm in. I get it all set up and other computers on the network can join just fine.

Users cannot connect to the server online, so I thought I had to do port forwarding. I have a laptop, wireless, and my computer, wired, connected to a linksys router with wireless booster. So I set myself up a static IP, and I put it in my browser as something uncommon happened.

Nothing. IE couldn't find it a page. So I booted up AOL, same thing, and then I tried Firefox, and I got the same message. I not only wound up trying my new static IP, but my old IPs, the IP that vent said people would connect to (equal to my static IP, of course), and every IP I could find under my command prompts "ipconfig /all".

I got some handy help, but he got stumped. I'm stumped. I want this ventrilo server hosted on my computer, but I can't do it without forwarding the right port. I can't forward the right port, because I seemingly cannot access my router to make the changes, can anyone explain why?

>So I set myself up a static IP

How? In the TCP/IP settings? If so, you're doing it wrong. Let your router assign your Systems static IPs based on the MAC Addresses (use DHCP in Windows). Then forward port(s) to the IP your Vent server is on. Done.

I used port forwarding, did everything correctly, and wound up with the IP going nowhere.

As far as your first bit goes, it went over my head. I'm not sure how to do that, and for the record, I used portforward.coms method

So I booted up AOL...

PROTIP: stupid ppl shouldn't legally be allowed to own computers let alone have delusions of being a system or network administrator.
