How do I improve my broadband speed?

Name: Anonymous 2006-12-20 17:35

I've noticed recently that my Broadband plan provides me with a DL speed of at least 7mb/s but I can only get out a max of 2.5mb/s on my speed tests. Is there a trick to get the most out of your Internet and download at the max?

Please help.

You need to find out where the bottleneck is. It might be your PC, your ISP sucking, your modem or not at your side at all.
I suggest connecting a laptop or something and then checking your speed again. Just make sure you're actually downloading from a good server, try to leech something off your ISP's server.

I once had an oldass modem that could only get around 4.5mbit/sec. In Linux I'd somehow get 5mbit, but the real problem was the modem. ISP replaced it and everything was ok. I was glad I could trash the piece of shit and AIDS that is Linux again and enjoy superior OS' from Microsoft.
j/k you fucking nerds.

OP here.
Right now I'm using a Dynalink RTA770 ADSL router and using both a PC and a Mac at the same time.

I've downloaded from all kinds of places and yet they never go past 250kb/s, for good torrents its the same.

try speedtest.net I was never able to get anywhere near my advertised speed on tests until I went there. They have a lot more  servers available for testing than most sites
