wireless help

Name: Anonymous 2006-12-10 0:33

Okay, so earlier today I discovered that someone was using my wireless network to run torrents and hog my bandwidth. He had even gone in and assigned himself a static IP on my network. So, I WEP encrypted my network, following directions from a friend.

I rebooted all of the computers, and at first they wouldn't connect to the network. After I manually selected it and entered in the WEP key, they connected fine. However, for about fifteen minutes they were only receiving about a fifth as many packets as they sent. This disappeared suddenly, and everything seemed to be working fine.

So I tried to access the router admin interface to assign myself a new static IP. And it timed out. I tried again. It timed out. I tried to access another website. It timed out. Trillian and uTorrent were still working fine, but IE7, Firefox, AND Opera were all timing out. Then, suddenly, I was able to access websites again. But not my router. That still timed out.

I've spent the last hour or so trying in vain to connect to my router. It keeps going through periods of websites loading and websites timing out (again, with trillian and utorrent still working fine). I've tried rebooting, reconnecting to the network, disconnecting my network card. etc. Nothing has worked so far.

What the hell do I do?
