No printer to be found?

I was just about to print something off, went to Print Preview but a message popped up saying that no printer was found.  It turns on fine and I checked the wires, they're plugged in.  I went to the Printers and Faxes area, and it's blank, so I clicked on Add a Printer, but it told me the "Print spooler service is not running."

The computer is a Dell Dimension 8400, the printer is also Dell, a combination printer/scanner.  Any ideas as to why it's suddenly not working?

My guess would be that it's because the print spooler service is not running.

*Slaps forehead*  Well hell, why didn't -I- think of that?

Seriously, I have something important I have to print for tomorrow and I need to get the printer working.

Bumping for help, does anyone know why it would suddenly do this and what I can do to fix it?

if rebooting the system doesn't solve the problem, your printer drivers may be borked such that the print spooler won't run.  clean them off your system and reinstall fresh drivers, may solve your problem.

What windows OS are you running?

I had same prob. on windows 2003 machine. I gave up and booted up old pc with win ME and printed from there.

Downloading the driver now, I'll let you know how it went.

Didn't work, getting the same error message.
