I downloaded one of my favorite old game before but it wont work when I try to start it up. I extract the RAR file onto my desktop and click SCORCH.exe and this message comes up

[Location of SCORCH.exe]
Invalid startup directory, please check your pif file. Choose 'Close' to terminate the application.

And beneath that a single button with 'Close' on it.

I don't know what the problem is.

it sounds like you have an invalid startup directory.  just check your pif file, then press the single button with 'Close' on it to terminate the application.

just delete the pif file

PIF files are old, might need Win95 compatibility mode.

The Mother of All Games

I seem to recall it couldn't handle modern CPUs and needed a slowdown utility to work. I suggest you look up Dosbox and see if that can handle it better.

There is a Scorch 2000 remake of Scorched Earth available.  It runs in XP without a hitch.  Use that Google thing to find it
