I'm trying to play a movie in VLC on my Intel iMac. Every movie works fine, except the one I just tried. It has a green notchy diagonal line going from the lower left to the upper right. Nothing I tried gets rid of it!

1) What movie? What codec is it using, does it have DRM, etc.
2) What version are you using? 0.8.5 is the latest public version, 0.8.6 is in beta, you can try a nightly build (http://nightlies.videolan.org/) or compile it from SVN.

If it has DRM, delete it. It's not worth anything.
P.S.: Tell Apple, Microsoft and everyone to die.

the video was encoded incorrectly. To be precise, the resolution is not mod16, and the encoder was an older one that wrote the bitstream badly (probably 3ivx or similar old MPEG4). Swear at the encoder and use a more error correcting player, like mplayer cvs builds
