Good-bye /g/ my computer has been infected with a W32/Sdbot.worm.gen.n and my uptodate mcafee anti virus system can't delete it.

It says its write protected, can I still be saved?

Is there a possibility nothing will happen, because it will not be able to reproduce itself. I need my laptop more than anything else right now.

Why do I pay $40 for Anti Virus software and get them?

Boot to safe mode and delete the file(s) from there. Failing that, boot from CD to recovery console and delete from there instead. In before opera.com and "GET LUNOCKS".

If after deletion it re-creates itself, set all access properties to "deny."
I've had to do that with several viruses...

Wow thanks anonymous, I just straight up deleted the file it was in, and now it appears to be gone, thanks loads. How may I repay?

Yeah, you saved me. The file was in a .rar file, and when i opened it BOOM, "Detected Virus, can't delete" read your post, deleted the file it was in and GONE. I have learned a valuable lesson about the Internet today
