Ok, so i have the following problem.
I am running debian testing amd64 on a 1.8ghz athlon64 with 1.5gig ram. video card is a pci geforce2mx with nvidia drivers (my old x700pro died).
Linux seems to act very very slowly when i attemt to do anything, and i do not know how to fix it. I have tried both a stock debian kernel and one i compiled on my own and there was no noticeable difference in performance. The system is generally very unresponsive, and i get happy little things such as while burning a dvd , my mouse cursor lags like crazy , and switching tabs in firefox often causes music to skip (well , nicing solves that at least...).
I feel as if i am doing something horribly wrong , because there is absolutely no reason the computer should be this slow; my old athlon-xp box with 256 mb felt faster.
Please help me.
