Updating BIOS without a FDD

Name: Anonymous 2006-10-26 23:17

Is there a way to flash a bios without using a floppy disk? I want to boot from a USB fdd, but my shitty PhoenixBIOS doesn't recognize USB attachments (nothing shows up under Removable Devices) and the only way to update to a version with that functionality is with a floppy disk (Which my VAIO laptop didn't come with. Thanks Sony!)

That's nothing.  My mobo requires a floppy drive to update the BIOS in order to fix a bug (a severe one that for some faggot reason limits me to 3.2GB of RAM), but the mobo doesn't have a floppy controller.

But I don't really care cause I've only got 1GB :p

you really only need to boot dos to run the flash utility, doesn't matter if dos is on a fdd/hd/flash drive/cd-rom whatever.

three options:

- learn how to put a dos installation with cd-rom drivers on a cd-rom; put all pertinient files with it, and use that.

- use a flash drive and install dos on that.

- there probably is a flash utility that works under windows for your motherboard, all you need is the rom image.

cd rom is broken, which is why i need the fdd in the first place

can't use a flash drive, because the bios doesnt support it unless i upgrade it

i downloaded one from sony for my computer, but they make you create a floppy disk to boot from.  doesn't help much when my fdd is usb
