sata problem?

Name: Anonymous 2006-10-25 8:02

i just got my new 400 gb sata 7200.10 hdd. replacing my old 160gb sata caviar that is currently in the process of failing. when i try to install windows on my new hard drive it tells me there is no windows xp compatable partition, and when i delete the partition and make a new one it says the same thing, though it works on pata drives (and it worked on my 160 gig when i installed it). ive tried booting to windows, going to disk management, formatting to ntfs and manually making the partition active and then trying to install windows but i get the same error.
i have an asus a7n8x-e deluxe mobo, it has an nforce2 chipset.

hi op here, i suck cocks.

ok, i actually DID fix it now.
the only way i could get it to work was to take the old hard drive with my old install of windows on it, create a mirrored raid array with it and my new one, and then delete the raid set. now i just have to use partition magic or whatever to expand the size of the partition from 160 gigs to 400.
