xbox 360 controller

I installed the drivers for the 360 controller but it still doesnt work, the green guide button lights up but windows is not detecting the controller, i tried a shit ton of drivers and it still doesnt work.I got windows XP and yes i have the .NET framework, what the fuck is wrong?
