Shortcuts to programs on a flash drive

Name: Anonymous 2006-10-21 0:32

Quick question... Is there a way to (without using batch files or any extra software, just by making a shortcut) make shortcuts to programs on a flash drive that will work no matter what letter the drive is?

I have a flash drive with programs in all kinds of different directories on that drive, and I want to make one directory on the root of the drive with shortcuts to all the other programs on the drive. The crap is that when I drag/drop a shortcut, it will work as long as the drive letter doesn't change - when I use the drive in a computer where the assigned drive letter changes, all the shortcuts break.

Am I doing it wrong or is there just no way to do this? My current solution is to make batch files for each program that simply change directory (relative to the batch file, and therefore independent of the drive letter) and run the program from there, but I'd like to have spiffy icons and to not have to see the command prompt window come up. Can you help?
