pointing stick on laptops

i've got an IBM thinkpad, and that little mouse pointer thing is pretty hard to use.  does it get easier with practice.

(i've been practicing for a while already, and it's not any less frustrating.)

so why bother buying mouse if he's gonna kill himself ?
