Campus network bypass

Name: Anonymous 2006-10-15 3:00

Slight variation on the often asked question of getting around university port blocking.

Others have reccomended Tor as a solution to this problem.  At the same time, loss of speed is cited using this method.

I have a laptop (XP Home) and a desktop (XP Pro).  I've had suggestions of setting up a VPN between the two to get around the campus blocking, but little in the way of how you actually go about doing that.  For the sake of the argument, let's say I'd like to play World of Warcraft on my lunch hours.

I'm far from an idiot when it comes to computers, but my skill with networking terminology and concepts is shakey.  Just never had much reason to learn it in depth.

Thoughts?

What you're trying to do is grounds for having your network privaleges removed, depending on the school policy.  You may even be kicked out altogether.  I'd say talk to the network admin.  If you're lucky, he'll set you up, but you may have to sign shit saying you won't pirate shit or whatever.

most likely the ports for VPN are also blocked unless you connect through port 80

Here's a brilliant idea:
BUY YOUR OWN BANDWIDTH if you don't like the school's policy
it's what the rest of us fuckers in the real world have to do anyway. You might as well start now.
