Load of unwanted partitions

Name: Anonymous 2006-10-09 18:33

I just got myself a laptop from Dell only to discover a shit load of unwanted and odd partitions, I'm just looking to know if it's cool to blow all of them away and throw on a new, not messed with, copy of Windows XP x64.

I normally wouldn't think twice about them but two of these paritions struck me as being odd, one is a 47 MB parition called "EISA Configuration" and there's a 5 gig FAT 32 Unknown partition.

Just wanna make sure it's Okay to kill these along with the other two BS partitions Dell threw on here.

One is configuration files (drivers and shit)
The other is a backup system of the OS, saved for when shit goes "fux hax zomg STOEL MAI JIGGAHURTZ"

Id generaly just get a bigger hard drive and start from scratch, that way whenshit goes OMFG HAX then you just pop in the old drive in case  you need to use your waranty.
Dell does not support superior GNU operating systems.

You can kill them if you want, but if your laptop goes tits-up and Dell want you to run tests before they send replacement parts or issue an RMA you won't have your diagnostic partition (the 47MB one) or your factory image (the 5GB one), so you're basically stuffed. Which is why you should image the entire drive and keep a backup if you plan to clear these partitions.
