Not how to overcome them.  Looking for examples.  like:

<script language=javascript>
function rcDisabled() {
if (event.button==2) {
alert('Sorry, no right-clicking allowed.');
return false;
}
}
document.onmousedown=rcDisabled;
document.oncontextmenu=rcDisabled;
</script>

eh?

Disabling JS gets rid of those things. And every Browser supports it.

How 'bout you only get to the content w JS enebled?

<script language=javascript>
    document.write("<p> <img src='picture.png' align='right'> ");
    document.write("Text to go with the picture. </p>");
</script>
<noscript> <p>
    You just missed out on a picture and some text!
    That's what you get for not enabling JavaScript.
</p> </noscript>

Yeah! And if you let that script be generated by another script it'll be even more secure! I'm going to put this on my geocities page right away!!!!!

or rather,

<script type="text/javascript">
document.body.innerHTML=document.getElementById('bodycontent').innerHTML;
</script>

<div id="bodycontent" style="display: none;">
body content etc.
</div>

The only reason you would be interested in doing something like this is to stop people from highjacking your stolen content.  You eill need to be more clever than that.  Scripting is your privelige, and not normally secure in this way.

A common trick I see is to make put the real image as  a background, and then put an invisible gif over it.  That way people will right click and steal a blank gif. Or you could split the gif into sections.  And I know that there are things you can do with your server to prevent hotlinking, etc.

This fails. Anything you can do with Javascript can be worked around.

Why does it have to be stolen before we're allowed to not want stuff to be copied all over the place?

>>10
Script-securing will not stop everyone, but (hopefully) many enough.

Why does it have to be stolen before we're allowed to not want stuff to be copied all over the place?

Because normally if you created something to share publicly with others you would ensure to get the proper copyrights and not worry about morons right-clicking your shit.

Sorry, but that argument still tastes a bit too much of "us non-corpolitical sub-humans not being allowed to do anything right"...

You're not required to accept my opinion, but there are a lot better, easier, less annoying, and more permanent ways to protect original content than blocking the appearance of a popup menu.

It fails anyway if you know how to use the View menu and click Source.  And Javascript can be disabled. And it's really annoying to hack a feature of the browser users expect to use. Therefore it just doesn't do anything positive at all.

How about if you don't want your shit copied that bad that you just don't put it online.

FREEDOM OR GTFO

Lol, you are really stupid. Do you think any script would prevent me to rip your whole site off? And even so, do you think it's so good I would want to? (FYI, I can: disable JavaScript, use a real browser that doesn't allow to trap right clicks, leech the site, save the full page, go to page information, ...)

Listen kid, if you're making a public "web sight", you are releasing whatever it has. You can't prevent others to get your contents, because, big surprise, to actually view your web site, they have to download your contents. If you don't like it, get the fuck out of my Internet.

Script kiddies like you just look like ass and achieve nothing (actually, you're not even that, you're begging for script kiddies' help).

Script-securing will not stop everyone, but (hopefully) many enough.
Even if I know how to bypass those lame hacks, I usually don't do it: I just go and never visit the website again. Good art is always easy to get (on the web, that is). If you have to struggle to save it, then there might be something better from someone smarter two clicks away.
In other words: you're just loosing visitors.

hey you guys know that javascript registers onClick on mouse click, right?

and that browsers register clicks on release, right?

duhr, I wonder what would happen if I right clicked, held the button down, clicked "ok", and then RELEASED THE FUCKING BUTTON OVER YOUR SHIT FURRY JPG. I'll give you three guesses and the first two don't count.

By the way, sites that do this annoying stuff that piss /b/tards off seem to be the sites that mysteriously get all their content posted in /b/, with (C)JAX pasted all over them. Fancy that!

Right-clicking disabled? That wouldn't be a problem if you bought one of my Macs.

Buy a mac. It comes without the right button.

How does that help? All you'd have to do is disable JS after the page has loaded instead of before...

Name: Jax 2006-10-10 18:48

What the fuck are you doing here!? You steal my arts! Damn you!!
