PC Case

Will a good computer case not only reduce heat inside my PC, but also my room? I'm still using my PC's original Compaq case and I have my computer on for a whole day sometimes and it gets very hot in my room. Then again, it's almost always hot here in Texas.

More than likely the ambient room temp will affect your PC before your PC will affect the room temp. So a PC in Texas during summer will most likely run hotter than a PC in Maine during winter.

In other words if your room is too hot buy a window AC unit, dont pimp your PC with a water cooling system and expect your room to chill as well.

The number and types of your components will affect the heat produced. If your CPU supports power management, use it. Hard drives & RAM generate heat, as do CRT monitors & LCDs to a lesser degree. OEMs such as Compaq tend to lack fans (other than the PSU), so migration of your PC to a case with more fans should better transmit system heat to the rest of your room.

So to answer your question, good computer cases support more fans than OEMs do; and fans will keep your PC closer to ambient temperature; if your hardware configuration remains the same but in a different noisier case, your room will still get as hot as it did with the original Compaq case (just sooner than usual).

Oh, and water cooling is still air cooling. Only refrigerant or coolant phase-change can dip below ambient temperature. And that'll definitely make your room hotter.
