Video card

Dear /comp/
What is the best video card I can get for around $300?

I must admit to having pretty little knowledge in this area, so I wanted to know if I could do better.

I have a cyrix 386 chip around here somewhere, and a math co for a 486sx

you really want the old matrox cards though...still supported by everything.
