DVD overburn

I need some basic info or experiences that you guys have had with burners/DVDs.

1.Have any of you tried overburning DVD's?

2.Were you burns successful? If so, what was the most amount of data you were able to reliably write onto the disk?

3.Were your overburns unsuccessful? Give any details that you have.

4.What DVD burning software do you use?

5.From my ~1 hour of research so far into DVD burners, I've gathered DVD+ format is an improvement over DVD-. Does that factor into your overburning and have you noticed any differences between the two formats? If so, which do you prefer?

5. Don't know, but DVD+ has better tracking and error handling, so you should use it as if your stuff supports it. None of my stuff doesn't support it.

Quick little lesson on dvds for you. do not buy the dvds on sale if you want to overburn. Very few dvds sold are manufactured by their logo company. Everyone from fujifim or sony, to memorex or dynex, buys their dvds in lot, puts their own packaging on it then resells it.  Their are about 10 dvd manufacturers out there, and the companies that sell dvds to the public buy them in large lots. When dvds are on sale it usually means they were bought cheaper (hence the cheaper price) which means they were from a worse company. There are a couple programs out on the internet that will help you tell the true manufacturer of a dvd.

Anyway the point is no matter what dvd you use there is a change the overburn will fail. The cheaper the disk the higher the chance, I have seen a 4.8gb project burn through 10dvds before it held, and I have seen a 5gb project finish on its first try.
