ATI vid card

Don't know if it's really a problem, but everytime I install the drivers for either my ATI 9600 or 9250 with my new motherboard, my monitor stops working. Anyone know the cause of this? Motherboard is an Elitegroup N-force 3-A running an AMD athelon 64 3000+
