Is there a way to install programs so you no longer need the disks or copythe entire program?

Assuming you're using Windows, try getting Daemon Tools which allows you to copy a CD to your hard drive, and make it look like a CD drive. (I've not used Windows for a while, so I don't know much more about it).

Is that what you mean?

for each program you want to use, just add a cd-rom drive (you can use paddleboards if you've used up all your motherboard ide channels) and put it to the side outside of the case.  i have 15 cd-roms hooked up with cds (3 on the motherboard ide, and 4 each on 3 paddleboards - drives d: through o:)

sometimes my computer reboots randomly, has been doing it a lot lately.  plus a funny smell out of the back.  but hey, at least i'm legal.

Yep, open up a terminal and type this:

sudo apt-get install <program>
