L2 cache failure?

Name: cake 2006-09-22 23:54

Guys, have you ever heard of an l2 cache failing? I'm on a Pentium M 1.73ghz on a Sony Vaio FS-742/W.

It began when I was burning a DVD and after the DVD drive did its job, it suddenly wasn't mounted anymore, okay... I though so I restarted. This restart was the longest restart I have ever had with this laptop.

So I booted into Windows, and suspected the laptop's underclocking feature to conserve battery was activated, so I opened CrystalMark and CPU-Z to check the timings, all was right. I clicked the cache tab just to look around to see if anything was off and I noticed that the L2 cache ratio read "full". I tried googling this but nothing came up but processor reviews.

I asked around and a friend told me that the l2 cache might've failed.

Guys, I need some help :(

SPOILERS:  If you're L2 cache failed, your computer wouldn't even be able to POST, let alone boot an OS.

Much more likely, is that you've got a nasty piece of malware somewhere.  It could also be that your laptop is a piece of shit.  Also CPU-Z/CrystalMark fucking fails.

:\, Anonymous Mod needs to fix his shit and just make it, support threads are not welcome anywhere on 4chan.

Regardless, thanks for the non helpful replies, as I already checked through msconfig and checked BootVis to see if anything is  slowing it down. I've ran a NOD32 scan and Ad-Aware and Spybot to yield no success.

And for you linux faggots, I booted into a LiveCD (Slax and Backtrack) distro and put the CPU under load, same results, everything begins to lag. (GNOME and fluxbox).

Everything begins to lag?

Sounds like a heat issue. Check the temps and your fan.

I let it sit for 4 hours with the battery removed and right below the air conditioning vent. I boot it back up to suffer the same problem.

Also, Sony's laptops have the shittiest stripped down Phoenix BIOS ever so I can't really check the temps and the fan because any tools that allow me to do that wont work.

>>1
L2 cache ratio read "full"
That means it's working correctly and at the same frequency as the processor.

Refer to >>5

RMA it.
