Removing Windows File Encryption

Name: Anonymous 2006-09-21 20:49

I googled, found nothing so I thought I'd ask here.

I need some help gaining access to some files that I enabled Windows file encryption on. I re-installed Windows and totally forgot about the files. Now I can't access them because the account that I encrypted them with is gone. Halp D:

Already tried that, didn't work. It's registered to the username and the pc name that was given when I set up windows (username-6e9a6b5ecb7) and it also has a "certificate thumbprint", which I'm guessing is there to keep someone from recreating the same username and pc name.

I was told by someone that if I accessed my Windows XP partition with a Windows 2000 disc by going into the recovery console, I could copy the files to another hard drive without the encryption attributes, has anyone done this before? Help would be appreciated.

P.S.
For anyone wondering what it was that I encrypted, it was my 4chan folder.
