I live in Army Barracks, and I have a cable box at the end of the hallway. I found out that if I just hook up my room's cable, I get basic cable. My roomate has an old SB4220 Cable Modem from Time Warner, so we improvised the power cable with the half of my laptop cable that plugs into the AC adapter box thing, and it fits. I get it to connect, and it goes fine until the Online light comes on. Then the power light starts blinking, but it stays online. My computer doesn't get net with it, even though it says 'Online' and 'Activity'. How do I make this work?

I removed all the icons to put on ObjectDock, and then ran style XP to do a theme.  All good, everything working.  Next day, I start it up, and suddenly I can't right click on the desktop anymore.  I can send things to the desktop, but can't see them (they are there according to desktop cleanup).  I can't even make that little box by holding down leftclick.   I can, however, change the background.

I already tried disabling everything, restarting, even restore to last good copy.  Help me /comp/ =(

I don't think you can. Don't they have software that monitors which modem tries to connect to the net through their service?

You don't. Cable companies will only assign IPs to modems with registered MAC addresses. Try harder.

oh, and this part's irrelevant.

not entirely. I was making sure the power cord wasn't the problem making the power light blink. Is there a way to spoof my cable modem's MAC Address?

networking and electronics 101 dictate otherwise.

yeah, exclusively it seems

Yes, but you'll never "guess" a valid one. Thread over.
