Installing Games

Name: Anonymous 2006-09-12 17:37

Dear /comp/
I was wondering how to install a game like halo on a computer in which I am not allowed to modify the registry, on a windows 2000 computer. Everytime I try to install it, I get an error saying administrative access. This is a school computer so I can't reinstall anything. The teacher is allowing me to do this as long as I finish my work on time and find any way to install it.
Any help welcome.

Step 1.  Backup your registry, because you'll probably fuck it up.
Step 2.  Find out exactly what registry information is added/changed for each of the apps/games you want to install (god knows how you'll do this unless you have access to another computer and can run a registry comparison after you install each app on the other computer)
Step 3.  Tediously and very carefully add exactly the same registry changes to the school computer.
Step 3.  Realise that you also didn't have access to some parts of the disk or have no idea what path settings to use on the key  settings as this computer is not in fact identical to the one you tested on.
Step 4.  Realise what a huge investment of time this is all going to be for very little gain, and give up.
