So, my last hard drive was an ATA-33. It died. I'm shopping for one now but the only ATA-x i can find is an ATA-6. How do i figure out if it will work on my laptop?

It will. ATA-6 is another term for Ultra-ATA/100 (ATA-4 is Ultra-ATA/33). If your laptop's drive interface only supports 33, the drive will drop down to that (newer drives are still backwards-compatible, you just won't get the full performance).
