I'm a major noob when it comes to reformating, since I've only done it once or twice, and I never took into consideration drivers.
So I downloaded this program that tells me what I have, and I downloaded the correwct driver for it, but when I try to install it it gives me errors. Just a random looking string of numbers, or number and letters.
Help?

Protip1: Computers can't do RANDOM
Protip2: Specifying the EXACT audio device, Operating System, Driver filename (and source) would be a good start.
Protip3: Typing up exactly what "random looking" string of numbers and letters pop up (including the error message headers) would also be usefull in most cases.
Protip4: GTFO my /comp/

1.random looking, not random.
2.Aida32 says I have a SiS 7012 Audio device, I'm running XP SP2, I downloaded the driver installation package from the SiS website.
3. UpdateDriverForPlugAndPlayDevices

ok
SiS 7012 Audio Driver Setup - InstallShield Wizard
Fail to install audio driver for windows XP.
Setup will exit.
ok
4.Gladly, once I have my audio running.

SIS 7012 is the chip not the actual card, I'd bet a sizable chunk of internets the card is onboard?
This means that it generaly wont follow the chipset guidelines in terms of features and board layouts, therefore generic drivers wont apply.
Soundcards are like 33.6k&56kmodems, they fucking suck where drivers are concerned.
Visit your mobo manufacturers website and find the archive with all the motherboard drivers, this will ultimately wind up with things runnign a whole lot smoother.
