Photoshop for Audio

I finally got my mobile to sync with my PC last night, and was thinking of using some audio clips as ringtones/sms/alarm notifications.

Wondering if theres a good audio editor which could be considered easy to use, yet powerful (like photoshop is for pictures). My previous digital audio experience is limited to re-encoding Lossless into MP3 with dbPoweramp.

Audacity, which is free and pretty good, or CoolEdit/Audition which is very good but only "free".

Ah, thanks. I'll have a look at Audacity.

I just attempted something with Windows Sound Recorder, and well... its pretty crap. :p
