Could someone explain why after I close bittorrent, I still get a lot of traffic trying to connect to BT ports for a long time after?

Spend a couple of hours dicking around in your client, and the problem will solve itself.

The ONLY fix outside of setting up a firewall and having them hammer that is to use UPnP. This is sort of a bitch to get to work, but it's possible. Enable it on your router, enable it on your firewall, enable the service, and enable it on the client.

This will open the port only for when the client is running, and will close it when it closes. It's automatic. This means your router will block the people trying to connect to your IP, rather than their requests hitting your actual NAT.

There's always network noise, but BitTorrent can generate A LOT. Depending on what you torrent or how many people you connect to you can get tens of thousands of hits a night.
