Formatting sucks

Got an older PC from my family. It has XP. Trying to format the HD /install Win2000. Got the six-disk boot disk thing from MS, but every service pack I DL gets corrupted on disk 5. Have a Win2k installation disk but since it's running XP it wont let me just reinstall.

Even a dos command prompt wont let me format the HD because the drive is in use. There's just gotta be a way to format this fucker and clear off all the trojans/dialers/Buffy pictures my family accumulated.

Help?

Besides that, use a standalone Windows 2000 install CD, and tell it to get rid of every partition, then create a new one. If you can't, boot MS-DOS 7.x from a diskette, and use FDISK to erase all partitions, then try again with the standalone Windows 2000 install CD. Alternatively, use Knoppix.

Use a Linux boot cd to format. http://www.sysresccd.org/Main_Page

Win2k ought to let you format the hd before installation.  Read your setup prompts and options carefully.
