installing firefox on linux.

Name: Anonymous 2006-08-11 5:38

Hello,

I recently installed linux onto my computer, and I can't figure out how to get firefox working on it. I downloaded the linux verision of firefox to a jumpdrive on my ibook, then plugged it into my pc, and extracted the firefox folder in the tar.gz file.

Now what? I now have a folder named 'Firefox' and in it are all the components Firefox comes with, but how do I launch the application?

Distros suck sure there're ebuilds for distros but they just get spread over thirty fucking directories including but not limiting to /bin, /etc, /share, /var, /var/lib, /lib, /include, /usr, /usr/share, /usr/lib, /usr/share/lib, /usr/bin and /opt, they're dependent on each other as fuck, and they're FHS-BASED, which means that it is a PIECE OF SHIT OF A MESS.

If this is the wrong distro, please link to a sane distro that install everything where it goes, i.e. something like /Software/<packagename> . (Hint: My favourite package managers are cp and rm.) I know of GoboLinux, but last time I checked it didn't have many prebuilt packages and still had a hidden, underlying FHS piece of shit.
