WRT54G v5 + kubuntu

Name: Anonymous 2006-08-08 18:13

A few weeks ago I had to reformat my downstairs computer.  I completely whiped off the hard drive and reinstalled windows.. but I couldn't get internet access.  I tried reinstalling the drivers for the usb network adapter (wusb54g v4) but it wasn't detecting shit.

So I come back upstairs to my computer and try to look at the settings on my router and I can't get in using the only method I know (pointing my browser at 192.168.1.1) which lead me to call the stupid foreign pricks at the technical support hotline.  They tell me to hold the reset button down for 10 seconds, which I do.

Now I can't access the internet and I have to connect my PC directly to my modem. (Motorola SB5129 SURFboard)

They keep telling me to look for my default gateway, etc etc and of course none of it works.  I try holding the reset button down for 5 seconds and attempting to get into the settings, I try hooking up the router again and rebooting, none of it works.

Right about then I gave up and just plugged my modem back in since nobody was going to be using that computer downstairs for at least a month.

Now I really need to get it up and running again.  This PC now is running kubuntu so I need to figure out how to get the router up and running on it.

So, /c/.  Any suggestions?  Anybody know how I should go about doing this?  Should I just buy a new router + network adapter combo and if so which?
