Trouble with Wireless Net on a Laptop

Name: dxdiag 2006-08-05 1:32

Hey guys.

My home's network for Internet is your average routine setup. Main computer in our den is wired to the Internet, and is where the router (Linksys) sits. My computer, in my room, is connected wirelessly to it.

Recently, I got a new laptop for school and such. Right now i'm using it as my main computer instead of my PC until I move out. Now for some reason, I have a lot of trouble with staying connected to the network. Periodically, the signal strength will drop down from "Very Good" or "Excellent" all the way down to "Low" or "Very Low". This of course causes all of my Instant Messengers to disconnect briefly and my browser to lag and stop loading pages. One of the more irritating parts to this problem involves AIM. For some reason, whenever the connection drops and comes back and AIM reconnects automatically (usually I don't even see this happen) I get the message from "AOL System" that i'm signed on in more than one location. I have to keep sending "1" to it in order for it to sign off whatever the other location is.

Anyway, can anybody offer any tips for improving my wireless connection with my laptop to my home network? I can find and post any specs needed, just ask.
