Help me choose a processor?

Okay, I was thinking of using the 3.0GHz Intel Pentium D processor, but I hear that AMD processors are better and more efficient than Intel's.

Or, some other similarily priced AMD processor?

Oh, and, I made myself a budget for the making of the PC, so I'd like the processor to be inbetween $100 and $250. A little bit over is accepted, but not too much.

I know that Intel is gearing up to release the Core 2 line of processors, I know that. But, like I said, I have a budget to work with with this PC, so when they're released, they'll cost too much for me.

That is why I asked for a good processor that would fit my budget, because I wont be able to get any of the Core 2 line of processors, I still need one for the PC I am building.
