Help me choose a processor?

Okay, I was thinking of using the 3.0GHz Intel Pentium D processor, but I hear that AMD processors are better and more efficient than Intel's.

Or, some other similarily priced AMD processor?

Oh, and, I made myself a budget for the making of the PC, so I'd like the processor to be inbetween $100 and $250. A little bit over is accepted, but not too much.

Now that I picked out my processor, I need a motherboard that's compatable with it.

Now, I don't know much when it comes to that, so could I get some  help finding a good quality, affordable motherboard that's compatable with the Core 2 Duo processors?
