Help me choose a processor?

Name: Anonymous 2006-07-14 19:45

Okay, I was thinking of using the 3.0GHz Intel Pentium D processor, but I hear that AMD processors are better and more efficient than Intel's.

So, /comp/, can you help me decide on a processor? This: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16819116238

Or, some other similarily priced AMD processor?

Oh, and, I made myself a budget for the making of the PC, so I'd like the processor to be inbetween $100 and $250. A little bit over is accepted, but not too much.

Yes, they do, but Pentium Ds also fail at anything gaming related. Whereas, the Core 2 Duo line is going to be just a bit more (the E6600 is $316, and is way better than AMDs most expensive and best product which is around $1,000) and are the best processors you can get once they'r released.

Now, don't shove "Intel sucks" down my throat until you read the review of it at http://www.anandtech.com/cpuchipsets/showdoc.aspx?i=2795

Then try to tell me to get a Pentium D or Athlon 64 FX-62 or something else. The Core 2 processors beat out any other line of processors to date (well, the higher up Core 2 processors do, the lower ones (such as the E6300) aren't nearly as good, but are cheap).
