Help me choose a processor?

Okay, I was thinking of using the 3.0GHz Intel Pentium D processor, but I hear that AMD processors are better and more efficient than Intel's.

Or, some other similarily priced AMD processor?

Oh, and, I made myself a budget for the making of the PC, so I'd like the processor to be inbetween $100 and $250. A little bit over is accepted, but not too much.

I've been doing a little research into the Core 2 chips, and was reading up on their performance (mainly reading ad AnandTech http://www.anandtech.com/ ), and the Core 2 Dueo E6600 caught me eye. It's going to be just a bit over my price range at $316, but be more than worth it as it outperforms AMD's Athlon 64 FX-62 which is over twice the price.

What do you think of my decision?
