XP SP2?

Name: Anonymous 2006-06-25 9:08

I'm thinking about "upgrading" to SP2 to try and fix a problem with my Network Connections folder (where the folder remains blank and I can't see any connections at all, even if I add a new one).
BTW if anyone knows how to fix this without upgrading to SP2 (even if that fixes it or not) please tell me.

Anyways, what exactly is wrong with SP2? I've noticed it has a problem with irda (which my phone uses... I need a new one anyways) so I stayed away from it. Are there any other annoyances?

I've you gone this long without upgrading I'd suggest doing a full reinstallation. Make a slipstremed Windows CD using nLite so you can have all the patches for SP2. Then after that tack on all the updates after SP2.

Learn how to reinstall properly. Collect your installation exes, try to portabalize what you currently have, and backup your Application Data folder. The task takes me about 3 hours now, no joke. It's absurd to claim that your customizations would take months to recreate. Everything is saved with inis that you can easily backup.

Don't overestimate the amount of work you put in. That was all searching and playing. SP2 upgrade will probably work, but it won't work well, I can guarantee that.

i had a similar problem with a usb dsl modem - one day it would not show up in network connections and it still doesn't, but it works just fine.

i tried going into safe mode and deleting all related drivers, but it won't let me delete some "miniport" drivers with the name of the modem; says it's required to boot the computer.

if anyone knows how to fix this more than one person would appreciate it!!

LAWL Months

It takes about 3 hours for me to restore on Windows and about 1 hour on OS X. Backup your shit and have your drivers ready.
