delayed write failure

Name: Anonymous 2006-06-24 4:01

My external hard drive keeps disconnecting itself by saying "delayed write failure". I don't know what's going on at all. It even happens while I'm not even using anything from my external hard drive. Why is this happening?

Sounds like your hard drive is failing. Might want to get your data off there if you still can.

is it a sign that its going to self destruct soon?

if you are using windows, plug in drive; go to start->control panel->system->device manager->select external hard drive from Disk drives->Policies->and disable the write caching options

but if it's doing this all of a sudden i would not trust it.  don't rule out something weird with windows like virus corruption, etc...

could also be el cheapo enclosure or bad USB drivers
surest way to recover data: connect to pc internally (IDE)
