Got me one of them shiny dual core AMDs but for some reason the computer feels sluggish. Any ideas on what the reason might be?

You installed Windows Vista (DRM/TC POS, don't), or failed the OS installation.
Or you installed loads of system tray shit and background shit.
Or you are using Internet Explorer and got malware.
Or you are a "dude, it's 5 Ghz!" gamer and thought dual core = twice the speed, and are not getting it.
