Dual Video Cards ... ATI or NVIDIA?

Looking to replace my internal ATI RADEON XPRESS 200 Series 256mb to get better quality as well as speed at ... at high resolutions

The reason I ask ATI or NVIDIA is because I was a big fan of NVIDIA until my computer came with the internal ATI, I've had no problems with either...  is it just  Pepsi/Coke ?

ATI's drivers are made of half and assed.

better get a nVidia card. the ati drivers are bad (on linux almost unusable). you get a faster card for a better price too. the geforce 7600gt is a really nice card.

Bull, ATI video drivers are fantastic. The catalyst software they have for windows is awesome as well. As far as the linux part of it all I never had any problems getting things to go on my SUSE box. As for nVidia stuff ive always had issues. Either they overheat or my system will become unstable or one of a thousand things will just not work. ATI is not just video hardware its a way of life.

ATI is better. their clock speed might not be as fast as a Pentium 3, but (like AMD cpu's) ATI cards do more work at once instead of tiny work faster

I never had progblems with Nvidia cards ever.
Once I wanted to save some money and bought an ATI.
Worst thing I could've done. The drivers tend to have
random crashes with openGL and display errors.
I don't know if all ATI cards are like this but that one was enough for me to keep me from buying an ATI ever again.

Personal experience - I've owned three ATI cards and five or six nVidias (the only reason it's three ATIs is because one came bundled with a new box I bought)- I won't be buying ATIs again.  Problem after problem with the drivers, under-spec for the price and one blew on me when almost new.  I'm not saying nVidias are perfect, but they're better than the alternative.

nvidia is horribly better than ati in every respect but price. often, ati cards are priced a little better than nvidia's, but nvidia driver support is infinitely better, as well as mtrr wrapping. i would never buy an ati over an nvidia.

I'll tell you what--I just have one Nvidia card, a 7800 GTX with 256 MB. It kicks ass.
I'm running 2 monitors, and FEAR runs at high settings with EXACTLY the same FPS as it did before one. Adding another card would just make the little girl fucking jump out at me.
I have had NO problems with Nvidia cards, ever. No, I haven't used ATI, but I can't see it getting better than what I have now. I fucking love it.
I'm planning on getting another so I can run a third, hell, maybe a fourth monitor, but I'm not sure if I'd use SLI often--you can only run one monitor under it.

I'm using dual VGA NVIDIA GEFORCE 6800 GS, 256MB. And also running in 2 monitors. ATI kept giving me hardware problems during the operation.

No, when SLI is enabled only one monitor can run.
So for desktop use I have it disabled so I can use all four of my monitors. Then I enable it in the control panel when I want to game.
