Question, gentlemen and fair traps of 4chon!
On account of the conclusion of another year of school,
I am considering the purchase of a notebook.
Please recommend brands and minimum system requirements.

Acer is pretty good (any mobile processor)
Stay away from Sony (overheating issues)
Alienware is overpriced (common knowledge)
IBM if you want trackpoint (HP's is the suck)
Dell if you can't troubleshoot for yourself

IBM is for winnars. Trackpad and keyboard rocks. I love it. For some reason my T60 came with a 512 MB video card. You might get the same freebie too.

Toshiba Satellites are absolute tanks, they're absolutely indestructible.
Dell laptops are fairly good, they're a hell of a lot better than you'd expect.

Ahhh...yes. The "how do I applied thermal paste" fiasco.
Or did you mean pre-Intel?

Thanks for all the input, gents --
Also note that I have an unlimited (be reasonable) budget
because it will be a graduation present.
In addition, I've been convinced all around that Intel Dual Core
Processor is superior. What's up with that?
And, also, I know you fellas love the IBM's, but
all of the laptops in my school are IBM's. I know the usefulness
of their trackers and their keyboards, but I'd rather not
bring the school atmosphere back home, regardless of how
much I like it, or the fact that I will be doing homework
on it, too.
Once again, thanks for your input.

Notebooks are what, 75 cents at walmart? Come on, it's not that difficult.
