Power Supply

Name: Anonymous 2006-05-22 5:30

I'm looking at buying parts to do an upgrade of my computer. the parts I'm going to buy are a MoBo, CPU, RAM, and a power supply. I'm pretty happy with the rest of what's in there. my main issue is, I've never been inside a computer with a P4 age CPU in it, and I've heard that P4 motherboards have an updated type of power socket. is the same true of a socket 754 AMD motherboard? if I get a power supply that says "Pentium 4 ready", will it work with the s754 motherboard?
thanks in advance for your help!

Not necessarily. Check: 20-pin vs. 24 pin vs. 20+4 pin.

oh god.. what's the difference between 24 pin and 20+4 pin? are they interchangeable?
sorry for being n00bish... I'm normally better than this :(

24 pin PSUs have a 24-pin wide connector (two rows of 12). 20+4 have a 20-pin wide connector (two rows of 10) plus an auxiliary 4 pin connector. Check what your motherboard has/needs, and purchase accordingly.
