How do i make my own website?

I want to make my own website and i was wondering how I can make it. I dont want to pay a company like godaddy to use thier servers, so i was wondering if anyone could link me to a place that can tell me how to get a webpage up and running. I guess what im asking is, is it possible for me to buy a server and get a url and run it off a server in my room rather than paying a company to use thier server?

yeah, however, your server will be crippled under heavy traffic because most home high-speed connections have less outgoing bandwidth than incoming bandwith.  however, if you don't anticipate using the full amount of your outgoing bandwidth it can work.

The first thing you should do is to find a free webhost for your site if you don't want to burden your bandwidth... I don't know about english or american webhosts but that's because I'm not american, hehe.... and that was the easy part for the next step you can choose out of multiple options, write your own site or you can google for html or even php templates (phpnuke.org). and that's all if you're using templates bringing up your site won't take long a couple hours maybe..
