Oh, wait, and before you come bitching about the shell, these sites include varios ports of Bash, zsh, csh, sh, and others, so shut the fuck up. There are also Windows-native alternative shells like 4NT.

Check Sourceforge for Console, which is something similar to Konsole for Windows if you don't like the plain console windows. Check past posts on this board for a way to use other fonts in the plain console.

Don't bitch about scripting because you have Perl, Python, Ruby, PHP, Lua, various JavaScript engines, VBScript, and everything else. For compilers, you have all you have under Unix as well as other Windows-only compilers, and it's much easier to set them up and have multiple C compilers running in your Windows because it's not based on that piss retarded filesystem hierarchy standard faggotry. Yeah, QT, wxWindows, GTK, and everything is there too, and I should say GTK seems to perform better than it does over X, lol. Quit bitching.

You also have other free software like Apache, MySQL, PostgreSQL, OpenSSH, and pretty much everything that comes with your Lunix, quit bitching.

So please, quit bitching for fuck's sake. I can have a working, efficient Windows 2000 desktop with everything you have plus all the Win32/64 software (still far more than Linux has) at once in half the time you compile all this shit. Just kill Explorer.exe and start learning Windows internals and collecting good shit like you did on Unix you fucks.

And: If you can use all Linux programs on Windows, why not use the Windows-programs on Linux? Personally, I like Linux better and if I didn't have so many Windows games, I'd have switched completely long ago.

It's not DOS-based, and you don't have to use it. You can use another shell (it doesn't require to run under CMD.EXE or anything before you ask). Bash is an option, although it's too made of hack and fail. You have Bash for Cygwin, but you don't have to use it either if you don't want, as there are native ports of it.

I hate using bash in windows. Every time I type a command there's a noticable delay while it hunts down what to execute. At least with cmd.exe, simple commands, like directory listing, are built in.

Leave the unix shells in unix, that's what they're good at.

Also, I'd like to point out that sh scripting is the programming atrocity of the century. Use a real scripting language, for fuck's sake.

I agree that all shells sucked so far. I recommend writing scripts using Perl or PHP-CLI, which are decent (for system scripts), shell-independent, more commonly found in all OSes, far more powerful and faster.
