Automatic Update works without Genuine Disadvantage (lolol, see what I did there). Also there's a hacked dll somewhere, but you could just save yourself the trouble and install Linux.

I have a copy with SP2 slipstreamed. Other than the service packs, all other windows updates come normally to me.

1 get a program called belarc advisor (google)
2 run it, it will tell you what hotfixes you are missing
3 furthermore, on that page where it tells you which hotfixes you are missing, there are links to the appropriate page on microsoft.com where you can get them
4 go to each page and say you are an "IT professional"
5 download the network install version, it's an .exe
6 run the .exe to install the update
7 burn .exe to cd for later use
