ATI drivers not in Add/Remove list

Name: Anonymous 2006-05-05 17:02

Hi all...

I'm posting on behalf of a friend, so I don't have the PC at hand. He is upgrading his graphics card from the OEM X300 in his Packard Bell PC (of unknown model number) and would like to uninstall the drivers to make way for his new nVidia card.

Apparently the drivers aren't in his Add/Remove Programs list. Is this because it's an OEM setup and the drivers are embedded in Windows... or something?

Anyway, how can he get rid of the drivers?

Thanks in advance.

Drivers aren't always in Add/Remove Programs (rarely, in fact, unless said drivers install other stuff like utilities, control panels, etc). Just remove the device from Device Manager, shut down Windows, install the new card and it should detect it okay (it should detect it okay even without removing the old one - in the era of plug-and-play I've never had problems moving from one graphics card to another - but it puts some people at ease).

Well best way is to delete the device from the Device Manager, reboot to safe mode, run driver cleaner (maybe usefull or not but hey no harm done, http://www.drivercleaner.net/professional.html), follow their instruction. Shut down then install new card, and install the drivers.
