Building new computer, need advice

Name: Anonymous 2006-05-05 11:06

I'm building a 200mhz StrongARM machine to run Debian. Making my own case out of electrical tape and available materials, with this board:

http://www.embeddedarm.com/epc/ts7200-spec-h.html

With its onboard video controller, I'll rip out of one of those PSOne screens and hardwire the VGA directly into the RGB and get (approximately) an easy 640x480 resolution on a machine that is, basically, just a 5" display about half an inch thick with two USB ports, an ethernet jack, 1gig of compact flash, 802.11g, a serial port, and room for up to 20 buttons keyed directly to hardware interrupts (that run shell scripts or execute keypresses).

Required power is 5 volts at HALF AN AMP (lol battery life). After ripping out the backlight on the screen and replacing it with four white LEDs, that won't need power either.

The problem I'm having right now is that I can't find ANY equipment for input that's small enough to fit the form factor of the device. Have any of you guys ever seen a Sidekick-style keyboard (basically a rubber sheet over a small contact board) that you can buy OEM style? I'm talking 4" or less in total length, and as little width as possible. A mouse touchpad would be a good find, too.

you might wanna try a frogpad. I can't remember the link, but searching thinkgeek for it should be good. they're about the right size for what you're after (I think). as for the rest, I'm fucking impressed.

I've gotta try to put one of those into a PSOne.

If it turns out well, will you make one for me?
